Weather: Fill the cup with water. Put shaving cream on top for a cloud. Explain that when clouds get really heavy with water, it rains! Then put blue food coloring on top of the cloud, and watch it rain.

I need to do this.

I do not consume media; media consumes me.: Twitter

mediaconsumesme:

Before this class, I was an extremely irresponsible Twitter-user. I posted daily (hourly) complaints and useless dribble. I never fully realized Twitter’s potential until I began researching how to use it effectively. Since then, I have become much more responsible with my Tweets, and I have an…

Recently the actors who play Rue and Cinna have come under attack from Racist fans of the Hunger Games. Reblog if you support the casting of Amandla Stenberg, the adorable and talented actress who plays Rue, and Lenny Kravitz, the unquestionable genius who plays Cinna. More @ eonline.

The thing that kills me is that I feel like these people making the racist comments are completely missing one of the major points in the book.

Quote of the Day Part 2
  • Teacher: What are some words beginning with the letter "G"?
  • All Students: Goose! Grass!
  • Student A: (As he stands and lifts both hands to the sky) Jesus!
  • Teacher: No, not exactly. That is tricky though. Let's talk about that.
  • Student A: You don't believe in Jesus, Miss S?!?!

Learning How to Teach Math…

I knew teaching wouldn’t be easy, and I also knew learning how to teach would hold many challenges; but learning how to teach math, well that is a MAJOR challenge in itself. Having to practically relearn everything I know about basic addition and subtraction is not easy. Creating diagrams (can you say number lines!?) and explaining in detail what I’m doing and why I’m doing it in relation to getting an answer is taking a tole on my cranium!

Maybe I’m being a bit dramatic, but hey, it’s 1:30 in the morning and I’ve been staring at problems like 543 - 198 for the past two hours figuring out how to best explain how to solve them and create a diagram - not a fun task.

Anywho, I’m going to keep chugging along this math course, hope I don’t fail it, and remember that in 4ish+ years I will have the career I’ve always wanted.

1 semester down, a million more to go…

…or at least it feels like it! After starting off my first semester of college with a 4.0, I’d say things are going well! This semester I’m definitely getting my feet wet regarding my education classes. I’m in a music class for elementary teachers, as well as a math class. It’s so fun to be surrounded by my peers as we all take the on the quest of becoming future educators.
